Technical characteristics

Ozone (O3) is generated by an ozonator chip from the oxygen present in the ambient air. Ozone is an oxygen molecule formed by the combination of three oxygen atoms instead of the normal two. Thanks to this additional atom, ozone is the most powerful disinfectant and oxidant in the world.

Due to its instability and rapid decomposition into oxygen under normal conditions, ozone cannot be transported or stored. It must be produced on-site for immediate and safe use. In the air, it lasts about an hour. In your spa water, it lasts long enough to purify the water (less than a second).

Although ozone is often thought of as a disinfectant, it primarily acts as an oxidant. In a standard spa operating with chlorine only, up to 90% of the chlorine can be used in reactions unrelated to disinfection. The by-products of these reactions are combined chlorines, which can cause eye irritations, odors, and other unpleasant effects of chlorination. When used, ozone oxidizes most contaminants, resulting in a reduction of combined chlorines. As a result, a larger amount of chlorine is available for disinfection, and a smaller amount is needed to maintain the spa, eliminating harmful by-products. Even though ozone provides some disinfection, the use of bromine or chlorine is still recommended.
