The Spa Blower: An Unmatched Whirlpool Experience
What would your relaxation moments be without those famous air bubbles that create the swirling motion in your jacuzzi water? Undoubtedly, they would be far less soothing. That’s why a blower—also known as an air blower—is one of the essential components of a spa jacuzzi. If it starts to weaken or becomes defective, it must be replaced. No blower, no whirlpool!
What Is a Spa Blower?
The term "blower" is borrowed from English and means "souffleur" in French. A spa blower is used to blow high-pressure air bubbles into the water, creating a bubbling effect and water movement. Unlike a massage pump or a filtration pump, the blower is solely dedicated to air distribution, resulting in more intense spa water agitation and a fully immersive sensation.
An air blower and a suppressor function in exactly the same way. Once activated, the blower draws in air from its surroundings and pushes it through dedicated air pipes. The pressurized air is then released into the spa through the air jets.
To prevent water from flooding the blower, it’s crucial to include specific safety components in the air circuit.
As illustrated in the diagram below, the air circuit must always be equipped with a check valve and a safety loop (or "gooseneck"), with part of it positioned above the waterline. A drain valve can also be installed for added safety, especially if the check valve is placed horizontally.
Power, Compatibility, and Technical Options
Wattage is a key factor as it determines the blower’s capacity to produce a sufficient volume of air. Genesis blowers (G70, G90, etc.) are particularly valued for their reliability and efficiency across a wide range of inflatable or rigid spas. Some models also feature an integrated heating system to ensure warm air bubbles, avoiding the discomfort of cold air during use.
The outlet connection is another crucial aspect, as most setups require a specific connection ring or precise diameter to match the existing air hose.
Model Examples and Multi-Brand Compatibility
Depending on availability, you might come across references such as the Boospa Pump ATC700 blower, Hydro Air Genesis 700 W, or other models compatible with all spa brands. These products cater to various needs: replacing a factory blower, upgrading a spa, repairing an inflatable spa, or adding a more powerful air system. Multi-brand blowers are a versatile choice for users seeking compatibility without restrictions.
Safety, Installation, and Key Information to Check
Each blower is designed to integrate seamlessly into humid environments, with splash-resistant casing, reinforced insulation, and secure electrical wiring. In all cases, we recommend checking the label on your current spa blower, especially for wattage, full reference, and outlet diameter. These details help ensure optimal compatibility with your existing system.
How to Choose a Blower
There are several types of blowers, and choosing the right one can sometimes be tricky. Be sure to consider the following factors:
- Heating system: A blower with a heating system warms the air before it exits the jets, matching the water temperature.
- Power output: Choose power based on the number of air jets the blower needs to supply.
- Noise level: Blowers are generally noisy. If you're sensitive to sound, check the decibel rating when choosing your model.
- Piping compatibility: Measure the diameter of your spa’s air hoses. If incompatible, various adapters and fittings are available.
- Plug type: Power supply type is also important. AMP and J&J plugs are the most common in spa systems. Refer to your jacuzzi control box specifications.
How Do I Know if My Blower Is No Longer Working?
Typically, a blower is designed to power between 12 and 24 air jets and lasts an average of 1,200 hours. However, it may stop working prematurely. If it does, you’ll need to replace it to continue enjoying your spa experience.
There are several ways to determine if a blower has stopped working. First, check whether it's still producing bubbles. A blower is essentially a spa pump that sends air jets into the water, creating the relaxing whirlpool effect. No bubbles = no functioning blower.
You can also tell by sound. As a pump, the blower is relatively loud—often over 60 decibels. If it’s completely silent or significantly quieter than usual, it likely isn’t working properly.
Lastly, visible signs of wear or clogging at the air jets may also indicate blower failure.
How to Replace a Blower
If you find that your spa blower is no longer working, you’ll need to replace it to restore the relaxing bubble effect it provides.
You can either hire a professional to replace it or do it yourself by following a few steps. First, always disconnect the spa from its power source before beginning any work. If you're unsure about handling electrical components, it’s best to get help from someone experienced.
Once the spa is powered off, open the access panel to reach the internal components. Locate the blower, then disconnect the air hose and unplug the electrical cables. If your spa has a ground wire, disconnect it as well, and remove any mounting screws holding the blower in place. You can then safely remove the blower.
Be sure to check the label on your existing blower for key information such as power rating, heating system, outlet connection, and plug type. This will help you choose a compatible replacement. If in doubt, feel free to contact our team by email or phone at 02 53 35 41 49 for assistance.
To install the new blower, follow these steps in reverse order:
- Position the new blower in the same location.
- Screw in all the mounting screws.
- Reconnect the electrical cables.
- Reconnect the air hose.
- Perform a test run before closing the access panel.
Wattage, outlet diameter, and the details on your original blower’s label are the most important factors.
