Usage Tips and Precise Dosage

Regularly Test the Chlorine Level

Use test strips or a water analysis kit to regularly measure the chlorine level in your spa. An adequate chlorine level typically ranges between 1 and 3 ppm (parts per million). This ensures effective water disinfection while maintaining a safe environment for bathers.

Add Chlorine Appropriately

Follow the manufacturer's instructions to determine the amount of chlorine to add based on your spa's size. There are different forms of chlorine, such as tablets, granules, or liquid chlorine. Choose the chlorine form that best suits your spa and follow specific dosage instructions for optimal results.

Adhere to Safety Recommendations

When handling chlorine, ensure to take appropriate safety precautions. Wear gloves and avoid direct contact with skin or eyes. Store chlorine in a cool, dry place, away from children and pets.

Maintain Chemical Balance

In addition to chlorine, it's important to maintain an overall chemical balance in your spa. Regularly check the pH, alkalinity, and water hardness, as these factors can influence chlorine effectiveness. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations to adjust these levels if necessary.

Clean and Replace Filters Regularly

Filters play a crucial role in filtering your spa water. Clean them regularly following the manufacturer's instructions and replace them when needed. We recommend having a set of 2 filters to allow your filters to fully dry once clean. For replacement, we suggest approximately every 6 months (+/- depending on your hot tub usage).

Respect Waiting Periods

After adding chlorine to your spa, adhere to the recommended waiting periods before bathing. This allows the chlorine to dissipate and reach a safe level for swimming. Consult the manufacturer's instructions for specific timings.

When to Use Chlorine for a Spa?

Chlorine is a disinfectant traditionally used to sanitize pool water, but it's also used to improve water quality in a spa. Chlorination products help achieve healthy and crystal clear water, completely free from bacteria, algae, and other contaminants that can pollute spa water.

It's possible to treat spa water with chlorine once a week to enjoy an optimal spa experience in thoroughly disinfected water. However, pay attention to the distilled chlorine dosage in your spa, ensuring the filtration system is running properly. If the chlorine dosage is too high, the water may become cloudy.

Known for its algicidal properties, chlorine allows for sterilized water, but it still requires some precautions:

  • Some individuals are more sensitive to chlorine, which can cause eye and skin irritations. Be cautious with the dosage.
  • Chlorine effectiveness can vary based on your spa water balance, including pH (acidity and alkalinity levels), TAC (total alkalinity), and TH (total hardness) to determine if the water is soft or hard (risk of hydraulic system scaling).
  • Spa water temperature can affect chlorine's sanitizing effectiveness. Chlorine is less effective in water above 28°C, which can be limiting if you prefer soaking in very hot water.
  • Due to its properties, chlorine is often not recommended for use in inflatable spas.

Different Types of Chlorine and Their Usage Context

As mentioned earlier, there are different forms of chlorine, each with its own benefits for effectively disinfecting your spa water.

Chlorine tablets are the most commonly encountered chlorination products. They are appreciated for their ease of use and effectiveness. Spa chlorine tablets are effervescent. To use them, simply place a few in a floating dispenser for gradual dissolution and diffusion in your spa water. However, be mindful of the number of tablets based on your spa's size. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to determine the quantity of tablets for effective water sanitation.

Granular chlorine disperses more quickly in spa water than chlorine tablets. Its use is recommended in a floating dispenser for gradual diffusion, but you can also pour the granules directly into the spa water. Compared to disinfectant tablets, granules allow for more precise chlorine dosing. Granules are much smaller than tablets, enabling finer dosing and thus perfectly sterilized water.

Liquid chlorine directly disperses in your spa water through an automatic chlorine feeder attached to the filtration system. This type of chlorine eliminates the need to add chlorine tablets or granules weekly to your spa water, as dosing occurs directly through the adjustment valve.
