Why Are Pool Filters Important?

How to Choose the Right Filter Cartridge for Your Pool?

Two simple ways to find your pool filter cartridge:

• By reference or brand: if you know your cartridge reference (e.g. Hayward CX880XRE, Pentair CCP320…), browse directly through our compatible models for Hayward, Pentair, Weltico, Sta-Rite, or Waterair.
• By dimensions: if you no longer have the reference, simply measure the height and outer diameter of your current cartridge, then use the filters on this page or our configurator.

To choose the right pool filter cartridge, several factors should be considered:

• Pool size and pump flow rate: an incorrectly sized cartridge reduces filtration efficiency and can put extra strain on your system.
• Filter material: polyester cartridges are more durable and suitable for intensive use, while paper cartridges are better suited for occasional use.
• Filtration fineness: the lower the micron rating, the more fine particles the cartridge traps, improving water quality.

Always make sure to choose a cartridge compatible with your existing pool filter to ensure optimal filtration and clean water all season long.

How Do I Measure My Filter Cartridge?

If you no longer have the original reference, the dimensions are enough to identify your replacement cartridge. You will need three measurements:

• Total height (from bottom to top, including end caps)
• Outer diameter
• End cap type (open, closed, handle, threaded…)

When and How Often Should You Replace Your Filter Cartridge?

As a general rule, a pool filter cartridge should be replaced once a year, ideally at the beginning of the season. Some signs indicate that it’s time to replace it:

• The water remains cloudy despite proper chemical treatment
• Filtration pressure increases even after cleaning the cartridge
• The cartridge shows tears, deformation, or significant yellowing

Regular cleaning (rinsing with clean water every 2 weeks during peak season) helps extend its lifespan. For deep cleaning, using a suitable cartridge cleaner is recommended.
