Guillotine shut-off valves are used to isolate a section of piping.
They require less force to open/close the circuit compared to ball valves.

This allows for servicing a component (pump, heater, etc.) without having to drain your spa.
They also enable closing/opening a circuit to adjust water flow (very useful for creating a drainage circuit, for example).

Turn the handle to remove the safety to pull on the handle to open the guillotine valve.
Valve delivered with its safety clip
